Wear and Tear Repairs:
If left unattended, damaged areas in a carpet can increase in size over time and become a tripping hazard.
Following an estimate, the process of doing an insert or patch will vary greatly upon the style; design; size of area to be patched; or condition of the carpet. Each of these factors may require a different method of repair. If you do not have a spare piece of carpet, we may choose to take some from a closet. Depending on its size and location, seam tape, hot glue or staples are used to secure the patch.
Seam and threshold repairs are necessary when the carpet has worn out, separated or needs to be split. The process for the seam or threshold repair may vary depending on whether it is a metal or a rubber threshold, or the seaming of two pieces of carpet. Where metal or rubber cannot be used, a high quality seam tape will bond two pieces of carpet.
When you start to see your carpet rippling, it is most advisable to have the carpet stretched to avoid costly premature wearing and the liability of tripping.
Re-stretching can be a very complicated process depending upon the angles, size and location of the carpet. As an example, when stretching a hallway the seams of the adjacent rooms need to be split, allowing the hallway carpet to move without affecting the adjacent rooms. The process and time involved for stretching a carpet with a concrete sub floor may be different than with a wood subfloor. Because of so many variables in the stretching process, the amount of time needed for the job will be approximately estimated.
The time may come, due to age or water damage, when the tackless strip holding the carpet against the wall may start to deteriorate and break down, causing the carpet to lose tension. A periodic inspection of the tackless strip is recommended.
